Our products are regularly reviewed to ensure they evolve with the changing needs of your customers.

Of course, your customers need to be informed of any changes we make to the policies we've issued.  For a customer to continue insuring with us, they must accept any changes we make to their policy.

And don't forget, customers should be reminded that the endorsement should be kept safe with their original policy booklet.

23 Security Requirements and Conditions

Within 30 days of the start date of the policy, your home must be fitted with the following minimum physical protections.

If after 30 days the minimum physical protections are not in place, there will be no cover for theft, attempted theft or malicious damage.

The final exit door must be fitted with: 

 (a) a mortise deadlock conforming to BS3621; or
 (b) a rim deadlock conforming to BS3621; or
 (c) for aluminium or UPVC framed double glazed doors a multi-point locking system or an in-built mortise deadlock.

All other external doors (including doors to integral garages)

Single, solid wood or wood panelled doors must be fitted with:
 (a) a mortise deadlock conforming to BS3621; or
 (b) a rim deadlock conforming to BS3621; or
 (c) any mortise deadlock or rim deadlock with either two mortise rack bolts fitted internally top and bottom or two surface-mounted key-operated security bolts fitted internally top and bottom.

Double, solid wood or wood panelled doors must be fitted with:
(a) a mortise deadlock or rim deadlock conforming to BS3621 with hidden flush bolts fitted at the top and the bottom of the closing edge of the first door; or
(b) mortise rack bolts fitted to the first door, one at the top which goes into the door frame and one at the bottom which goes into the floor; or
(c) a mortise deadlock or rim deadlock conforming to BS3621 with surface mounted key-operated security bolts fitted to the first door, one at the top which goes into the door frame and one at the bottom which goes in to the floor; or
(d) any mortise deadlock or rim deadlock with mortise rack bolts or surface-mounted key-operated security bolts fitted to both doors with those at the top going into the door frame and those at the bottom going into the floor; or
(e) a mortise hook bolt conforming to BS3621.


Aluminium/UPVC doors must be fitted with:
(a) for single doors a multi-point locking system or an in-built mortise deadlock.
(b) for sliding patio doors two key-operated locks fitted internally top and bottom and preferably in the opposite diagonal corners.
(c) for french doors or windows  a mortise deadlock or rim deadlock with mortise rack bolts or surface-mounted key-operated security bolts fitted to both doors with those at the top going into the door frame and those at the bottom going into the floor.

Garage Doors must be fitted with:
(a) a key-operated lock (other than a rim latch); or
(b) a good quality padlock.
Electronically operated garage doors do not require special protections.

Windows (all external basement, ground floor and other windows, skylights and fanlights accessible from roofs, fire escapes, down spouts, walls or other features of any building) must be:
(a) fitted with key-operated window locks; or
(b) permanently screwed or bolted shut.
The glass in louvre windows must be glued into its mountings by strong impact adhesive.
These requirements do not apply to fire exits designated by the fire prevention officer.

Use of minimum physical protections

Whenever your home is left unattended or when the occupants go to bed at night it is a condition that you put into full operation any lock or bolts or other security devices.
However, locking devices on windows in occupied rooms need not be brought into operation.

If you fail to comply with this condition then we will not be liable to pay the first £1,000 of your claim for damage by theft attempted theft or malicious damage.


27 Burglar Alarm Condition

This policy only provides cover for theft, attempted theft or malicious damage at your home if :

(a) the burglar alarm at your home:

(i) conforms to BS4737 or PD6662 (Grade 2X system) and
(ii) is regularly inspected and maintained by  an alarm company which is registered with a UKAS accredited inspectorate body (NSI or SSAIB) or another company agreed in writing by US) and
(iii) is put into operation when the home is left unattended and when you go to bed at night

and 

(b) any keys to the alarm are removed from your home when it is left unattended.


28 Modification to Burglar Alarm Condition (Alarm Discount)

If you fail to comply with the Burglar Alarm Condition and theft, attempted theft or malicious damage occurs, cover will be provided but an additional excess of £250 will apply.


30 Working from Home Extension

Your policy has been extended to include working from home cover. Please see your "Home Insurance - Working From Home extension" document that you should read together with the policy wording.

Please note that this policy provides cover for (enter number of employees) employees.


31 Bed and Breakfast Letting

It is a condition of the Insurance that:
(a) the reception of paying guests or the letting of rooms is only incidental to the main means of livelihood; and
(b) the number of paying guests or lodgers does not exceed 6

We have recorded that the home is being used to accommodate paying guests.

The property owner’s liability (Buildings only or Buildings and Contents policies) and occupier’s & personal liability (Contents only or Contents and Buildings policies) exclusion regarding any profession, business or employment involving you or any member of your family has been deleted from any use of the premises for bed and breakfast services.


32 Restricted Valuables (Lodgers)

Section – Contents

No cover is provided for valuables which are not in your own domestic rooms (for which only you have keys).


 33 Working from Home Extension

Your policy has been extended to include working from home cover. Please see your "Home Insurance - Working From Home extension" document that you should read together with the policy wording.
