Church property FAQs...

  • Our treasurer takes the collection home with her. Is it covered?

Yes. Church money is covered at the church, as well as at the home of an employee, volunteer or any church official. We also cover it while it’s in transit. We recommend banking money as soon as possible. It’s worth double-checking your policy with us to see how much money is covered.
  • Our church is left unlocked. Are we covered for theft?

Yes you are covered for theft without having to lock the church, as we do appreciate that sometimes it is not always possible or practical to lock the church each night.

However, as this increases the risk of theft or malicious damage we may apply an additional premium in recognition of this. Therefore we strongly recommend you lock the church at night.

Items left in the open in the church are covered, though portable valuable items and communion plate should be stored in a safe or kept away from the church when no-one is present.

  • We keep our mower in a church member’s garage. Is it covered?

Yes. Church property is covered in church members’ homes. We also include up to £1,000 of cover for equipment kept in sheds and outbuildings in the church.
  • Our bell ringers often take our hand bells to other venues for concerts. Are they covered?

Yes. All musical instruments are covered for up to £10,000. As long as they are in the care of a church member, they are covered anywhere. So everything from hand bells to keyboards used by youth groups in the village hall will be covered. Instruments should be returned to the church or a member’s home when they’re not being used.
  • Our flower lady has had her handbag stolen from the church. Can we claim for the cash she’s lost?

Yes. You can claim for any personal theft at the church up to £250. You will of course have to pay any excess depending on the terms of your insurance policy.
