Success for Ecclesiastical at the British Insurance Awards

Following hot on the heels of last year's double success at the British Insurance Awards, Ecclesiastical shone again at the BIA when we won the award for the Risk Management Initiative of the Year for our Hands Off Our Church Roofs campaign.

The awards, the industry’s leading benchmark for excellence, were presented at the Royal Albert Hall.

What did we do?

Hands Off Our Church Roofs was launched to address the ongoing problem of metal theft from churches. We installed roof alarms free of charge on a number of vulnerable churches throughout England, Scotland and Wales and invited other churches to see the alarm in operation.

Our aim was to significantly reduce the number of metal theft claims.

To date there are nearly 500 alarms now in place across the country and the number of metal theft claims from churches fell by 64% and the costs by 60% in 2012. In this category we were up against: Zurich, Lloyd & Whyte and Leisuredays.

Mark said, “I’m delighted that Ecclesiastical was successful. Metal theft has been a huge issue for many sectors and many of our customers over the last six years.

When metal theft reached its peak in 2011 and a record number of churches were targeted by thieves, we knew we needed to go further than ever before. Our Hands Off Our Church Roofs risk management campaign was carefully planned and meticulously executed and is a good example of how excellent risk management combined with heightened public awareness can help tackle an issue and reduce losses. The awards highlight the best of the insurance industry and Ecclesiastical can proudly take its place as a winner.”

What's next?

Despite such great success, we can’t and won’t be complacent. Theft is an ongoing issue and we are still working hard on deterring the theft of metal.
