Protect your church from thieves with SmartWater

Ecclesiastical now protects all Anglican churches insured with SmartWater

Nearly every day we receive claims for theft of external metals from churches. That’s why we’ve launched an initiative to provide free SmartWater licences and starter kits to all our church insured. SmartWater can be used to treat roofs and other external metals as well as internal non metallic church valuables.  Find out how to order SmartWater.

Research aided by the South Yorkshire Police shows just how strong the SmartWater deterrent is.  Find out what the SmartWater - next steps are to protect your church and register your SmartWater sample. Any churches that have still not registered are putting themselves at unnecessary risk.

For further information on theft of external metals and anti theft advice please visit our theft of metal page.

What is SmartWater?

SmartWater is a harmless water based forensic property marker which can be applied to copper and lead, as well as internal church valuables. No two SmartWater systems have the same forensic code, meaning marked items can be irrefutably traced back to the church, and criminals coming into contact with SmartWater can be linked with the crime scene. The solution is invisible under normal light, but glows brightly under UV light making it easily identifiable by the police. For further details please visit the 'SmartWater' website at www.smartwater.com

SmartWater is recommended by the police and deters criminals

SmartWater Technology Limited is a police accredited organisation and their product is currently used in a variety of forms by 95% of UK police forces. It has a 100% conviction rate when used as evidence in a court of law.  As such the SmartWater logo is well known amongst criminals and is an effective deterrent.

Application and Safety

You can apply SmartWater with a paint brush. Where security marking is to be applied on roofs, appropriate safety precautions identified from risk assessment should be followed.
