Theft of metal - an escalating problem

As a leading insurer of historic heritage properties, Ecclesiastical has seen an increase in the theft of metals from insured premises.

From January – November 2007, we received a staggering 2,200 metal theft claims costing an estimated £7.6 million from Anglican churches, schools and heritage properties across the country.

Putting aside the irreplaceable loss of the nation’s heritage, thieves are also causing damage to stonework during the course of the theft, as well as damage to internal furnishings if rainwater leaks occur before the metal theft is discovered.

Our team of specialist surveyors have prepared a set of theft of metal guidance notes outlining a variety of measures you can take to protect from metal theft. Read more about how to protect against problems in our unique theft of metal guidance notes.
