When a member of the team at SEIB Insurance Brokers needed care towards the end of her life, the nearby St Luke’s Hospice was there for her – so ever since then the broker has been raising money as a way of showing its gratitude for the help she received.
And now – thanks to Ecclesiastical Insurance’s Closer To You programme – the latest in a series of donations has been passed to the hospice, in Basildon, Essex.
The money comes at an important time as St. Luke’s Hospice deals with the challenges presented by the coronavirus outbreak. The charity continues to provide essential care to people in the community, in their own homes, in its In-Patient Unit, and by offering vital support services such as counselling over the phone where possible.
Katie Oswald – Digital Marketing Manager for South Ockendon-based SEIB, the Personal Lines Broker of the Year in the 2019 British Claims Awards – said, ‘Our colleague was cared for by St Luke’s Hospice so the charity is very close to our hearts. It’s a really lovely place – obviously there is sadness there, because the people who are there are very ill, but the staff are so nice and friendly. We support two charities every year, but they are always in our thoughts, and we support them as and when we can. It’s great to be able to support them at this challenging time.’
St Luke’s Hospice Interim Head of Fundraising and Marketing Michelle Mitchell said, ‘We are extremely grateful for the wonderful donation and continued support of Ecclesiastical Insurance and SEIB. We rely on the generosity of our community to continue to provide palliative and end-of-life care for patients, and support for their loved ones. This donation will be spent to support nursing in our In-Patient Unit during the crisis, whilst we continue to work with our NHS partners in Basildon and Thurrock.’
