About the role

Ecclesiastical are looking for a Business Accountant to support the Non UK team within Business Accounting.  This is a fantastic opportunity to join a high performing team within an ethical organisation working to contribute to the greater good of society. The team provides finance and strategic support for Ecclesiastical Ireland as well as a fully outsourced finance function for two independent insurance companies.

Key Accountabilities

This is a demanding role within a team that works closely with a Strategic Business Unit Management Team to provide a full management accounting service.  The successful applicant will work directly for the Business Accounting Manager to support the business on all financial matters, as well as involvement in wider commercial aspects of the business. 
Key accountabilities are:
  • Produce relevant monthly management information within agreed timeframes 
  • Produce regular Management reports as required
  • Work with Finance colleagues to deliver all statutory and regulatory reporting requirements to required deadlines
  • Manage and contribute to the annual planning process including support and advice on assumptions, drivers and outputs.  Work closely with the relevant Management Team to explain and reach agreement on the final plans
  • Critically appraise all financial information produced to identify and report trends, opportunities and risks via the appropriate channels
  • Pro-actively develop management information and reporting to ensure that it remains efficient, streamlined and fit for purpose
  • Ad hoc project work and support for other areas of the immediate team and wider Business Accounting function
  • Ensure agreed standards of financial control and the risk management framework are embedded in all business processes
  • Actively expand general insurance and technical knowledge both informally (networking internally and externally, internet, industry press) and formally (in-house training, CPD)
  • Occasional overseas travel may be required

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Qualified and Experienced Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
  • Strong IT skills particularly Excel
  • Insurance accounting experience preferred 
  • Excellent analytical and diagnostic skills
  • Confident communicator 
  • Strong commercial understanding and acumen
  • Demonstrably proactive, identifying and delivering on opportunities to add value
  • Experience of effective stakeholder management and a proven ability to build strong relationships whilst maintaining objectivity, challenge and influence
  • A strong track record of personal success as well as academic achievement
