About the role

To lead the efficient delivery of all IT applications and systems development activity across our systems
 
Ansvar’s roots go back to 1932 when we were founded in Sweden – Ansvar actually means responsibility in Swedish. In 1959 the company expanded into the UK opening offices in London, and in 1975 we moved to our current home in Eastbourne, East Sussex. Being owned by a charity ourselves means we share many of the ideals of those we insure and each year we donate a share of our profits to our owners, Allchurches Trust, as well as organisations involved in alcohol and drug education and rehabilitation, particularly for young people.
 
Managing an in-house Development team of circa 8 – 10 with a mixture of on and offsite team members. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead and manage the software development team to deliver applications and solutions to a required standards (AS400 I-Series, web products, Insurance policy administration systems, integration solutions)
  • Work effectively with Key Stakeholders to ensure delivery against agreed priorities
  • Work closely with Key Stakeholders to meet current and future user needs
  • Work closely with EIO’s Architecture, Business Analysis, Data Management and Quality Assurance functions within Business Solutions
  • Ensure delivery processes are optimised, continually improved and consistent across the team
  • Ensure the code-base is maintained to a high quality by adopting and promoting best development practices, ensuring required documentation and controls exist
  • Ensure effective testing mechanisms are in place to provide software solutions that are free from defects
  • Ensure applications meet security standards
  • Managing the interpretation of business or customer requirements into development specifications
  • Oversee the creation of accurate work estimates and contribute to the demand and capacity management processes

Skills & Experience

  • Have proven experience in managing a software development team
  • Involvement in the direction of our products & services taking into account emerging and legacy technologies 
  • A track record of driving team performance through personal hands on development experience
  • Proven ability to manage multiple developments to time and budget to enable business requirements
