About the role

Ecclesiastical are looking for a Statutory Reporting Accountant to join their Group Reporting Team.  The team forms part of the Group’s Corporate Finance Team and is responsible for reporting to a diverse range of stakeholders. Working within a group with a turnover in excess of £400m, net assets in excess of £0.6bn, and with operations across four countries, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to stretch their already strong technical knowledge as well as be at the forefront of reporting on and responding to Group results.     

Key accountabilities:

  • Prepare the Group’s quarterly consolidation, including sourcing and analysing financial information used to prepare the Group’s IFRS Annual Report and Accounts
  • Produce statutory accounts for the main operating Groups and contribute to the preparation of individual statutory accounts for Group companies and our ultimate charitable parent company
  • Planning and communicating the Group’s year-end reporting cycle ensuring signing and filing objectives are met
  • Provide support to the external auditor for an efficient and surprise free statutory audit
  • Support the delivery of regulatory returns
  • Make recommendations on key accounting judgements, setting out those recommendations in clear and concise written papers to Boards or Committees. 
  • Preparation of Audit Committee and Board papers supporting the Group’s financial reporting governance needs
  • Develop recommendations to advise on the approach to changes in accounting standards and accounting matters as requested
  • Develop effective and efficient processes to ensure consistent, accurate and timely reporting
  • Act as the key point of contact for financial colleagues around the world, communicating reporting requirements, required deadlines and also being the gateway for questions and challenges on reported results
  • Actively expand personal technical knowledge both informally (networking internally and externally, internet, industry press) and formally (In-house training, CPD)

Knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Excellent understanding of International Reporting Financial Standards and an appreciation of UK GAAP 
  • Experience in producing consolidated financial results
  • Experience of producing statutory accounts 
  • A skilled communicator capable of interpreting and explaining complex information and producing clear and concise reports and papers
  • Experienced and disciplined user of Microsoft Excel 
  • Knowledge of the Financial Services industry would be beneficial but not essential
  • Experience of and aptitude for interpreting and applying accounting and regulatory guidance
  • Ability to meet demanding deadlines, handle completing priorities and adapt to the needs of the business. 
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills 
  • Experience of operating on an international and cross-border basis is desirable


  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
  • A track record of success and achievement in education
