About the role

To support the business plan in ensuring that underwriting is conducted within a robust, effective and controlled framework providing timely service and fit for purpose developments 

Key accountabilities

  • Support the business in delivering business plan and achieving target UW quality and standards in line with UW strategy through:
  • Acting as a technical referral point around procedures, policy wordings, reinsurance, historic policy tracing and audit, supporting the  business unit in ensuring that standards are met and technical expertise cascaded, meeting defined levels of service (SLAs)
  • Conducting audits and acting as a quality and development representative for UW and reinsurance matters, liaising with all areas of the business and escalating risks as required
  • Drafting and reviewing policy wordings, summaries of cover, application forms,  clauses and all technical literature ensuring they comply with legal, reinsurance and regulatory parameters
  • Working in partnership with Technical UW Consultants, Property and Casualty Directors, class of business and underwriting teams to enable underwriting of quality business within appetite and individual UW licence
  • Understanding and operating within regulatory framework and identifying and escalating any risks to the business
  • Undertaking processing of complex reinsurance arrangements, liaising with reinsurers and reinsurance brokers and ensuring  accurate and timely reporting
  • Undertaking historic policy searches as requested by Claims or ELTO
  • Supporting Underwriting projects as required by the business

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • DipCII or commitment to achieve within a defined timescale
  • Proven track record and detailed knowledge of general insurance principles through reinsurance, underwriting or claims experience
  • Proven analytical skills and ability to submit balanced and well considered recommendations
  • Proven flexibility of work in previous roles
