About the scheme

Our scheme is all about setting you up for a future career at the most senior level and runs for 2 years for each graduate.

Step one – finding out all about us

The first 18 months are all about letting you get right under the skin of our business.  We want you to find out about what we all do, so that you understand what really gets you motivated while working on your management skills and building your leadership potential.  During this time you’ll work in all of our key areas, such as underwriting, business consulting, strategic marketing, claims, risk control and finance.

You’ll get the chance to:

  • Get stuck into real jobs.

  • Spend time at our head office in Gloucester as well as our other branches in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Dublin and our subsidiary companies.

  • Lead projects from early on, such as the launch of a new scheme or of an updated product and creating a facility for all parts of the Group to cross-sell.

  • Go out with our Business Development Managers to meet our brokers.

  • Inspect the risks we insure, such as cathedrals, schools and heritage hotels, with our risk management surveyors.

  • Work in our underwriting team to learn how we develop new products and technical pricing.

  • Learn about managing claims and gain hands-on experience with claimants.

  • Attend regular workshops on key topics such as managing change, project management and stakeholders mapping.

  • Obtain the Advanced Diploma in Insurance issued by the Chartered Insurance Institute within three years.

Step two – deepening your understanding

For the final 6 months you can tailor your work to suit your career objectives and help deepen your understanding of our overall business strategy.

And then...

Well, this is really up to you.  Our talent management processes will assist you in choosing from the opportunities available at the time, taking into consideration the business needs, your development areas and career ambitions.
