Inspire Young Company
How the £10,000 grant will help
Cutting Edge Theatre is launching a new Young Company for 20 learning disabled artists aged 15-18. This is a training company where the artists will learn drama, movement, music and acting for camera skills – all designed to be part of our “ladder” structure to enable those with learning disabilities to have equal access to theatre. The funding will allow us to hire specialist staff and be able to continue working with this company.
This funding will make a huge difference in the lives of the company members. After leaving school, many individuals find that they fall off a “cliff edge” with little support or groups available to them. We are working on ensuring that those with a learning disability in Scotland have the same ability to experience/access a youth theatre, young company, drama training and employment opportunities. The funding will also allow us to buy technology that will help the company in their evaluation of their own individual learning plan, which is very important to their development.
