Charity risk barometer
Our Charity Risk Barometer 2019 uncovers key challenges facing charities, helps you capitalise on opportunities and reap major rewards.
Flat Friends UK is a charity supporting women living without breast reconstruction after a mastectomy. It also provides support to those facing decisions now or in the future, due either to a breast cancer diagnosis or preventative surgery. They have a closed Facebook group, which provides a safe, private, respectful and mutually supportive place for women to come together and talk about practical and emotional matters related to their experiences. Topics covered include everything from fashion and clothing to cancer treatment and relationships
Flat Friends UK works hard to raise awareness throughout society and among healthcare professionals, promoting the message that living without reconstruction is a positive outcome for women.
Their work goes beyond just providing an online platform of support. The charity provides a booklet, which is available in breast units across the country, to help support women facing decisions about having a mastectomy without immediate reconstruction. The booklet contains information on surgery and healing, adjusting to a new altered body shape as well as practical advice and tips. Gilly Cant, Founder of Flat Friends UK said: ‘Ecclesiastical’s generous donation will go towards printing our booklet. Thank you again.
