Forever Angels provides life-saving nutrition to orphaned babies in Tanzania, and strengthens the capacities of families to care for their own children through women empowerment, business creation and education. Each year in Tanzania, 8,000 women die in childbirth, leaving 20 babies per day at risk of starvation. With no milk supply, one baby dies every 12 minutes. In the past decade, 600,000 Tanzanian children under five have died as a result of inadequate nutrition. The price of milk formula costs one week’s wage to provide a tin of formula milk. Without milk, families feed newborns rice, tea porridge and fish. This leads to malnourishment, and in many cases, child abandonment or death.
The £1,000 donation from Ecclesiastical will provide weekly life-saving formula milk to two malnourished orphan babies for six months. The charity can also provide weekly training workshops to their caregivers on HIV, Malaria, Nutrition, Child Development, Health and Hygiene and First Aid. They can also set two caregivers up in a small, sustainable business meaning they can provide for their own families into the future. Essentially, it means two families can dig themselves out of poverty and build better futures for themselves.
