Futures Theatre was established to create and produce work that puts women at the centre. Engaging with authentic female stories and developing partnerships with brilliant female artists they create theatre which ignites conversation and engenders change. In particular they deliver productions to youth audiences across London.
In 2017, our ethical investment business, EdenTree established a community investment fund focused on charities aligned to our positive investment criteria. We supported Futures Theatre in its mission to create theatre for children and teenagers which ignites conversation, engenders change and promotes a fairer society for women and girls.
The grant specifically funded a theatre production ‘Underwater Love’, tackling the negative consequences of sharing sexual imagery, and enabling young people to identify abusive behaviour. The production was taken on a five-week tour to schools across London. Resource packs were also provided for each school, including script extracts and exercises to ensure schools and students could keep exploring the issues beyond the performance. In total, 4,123 young people in 24 schools across 10 different London boroughs directly benefited from the work.
A further 40 secondary school students benefitted from using the resource packs with other classes, and 182 young people accessed support services for the first time as a result of the project.
