Home-Start Arun, Worthing and Adur is a local charity providing support for parents and families in the West Sussex area who are going through difficult times. Their aim is to promote the welfare of families, to alleviate stress and conflict in the home and help to prevent family crisis and breakdown. The charity, which has been running for 18 years, is led by experienced Home-Start volunteers who make home visits to parents, families and children, providing friendly, confidential and practical assistance.
Last year, Home-Start received a record number of referrals for help, and their volunteers supported an amazing 150 families with 354 children. The team give over 6,250 hours of their time to support others in their community. However, they couldn't help one in five of the referrals due to lack of resources and funding. This year, they’re anticipating that the demand will increase and they’re poised to raise more funds to help more local families with one–to-one support in their own home.
Ecclesiastical’s donation will support Home-Start’s work in the local community and make sure they can continue to help as many people as possible over the next year. Catherine Hobson, Home- Start’s Business Development Manager, said: ‘Home-Start Arun, Worthing and Adur has been working successfully with local families for 18 years and we receive zero state funding. It's wonderful to have funds raised from a variety of sources and Ecclesiastical’s donation extends that list.’.
