Link Reach – Reducing Loneliness and Social Isolation in Rural Communities

How the £10,000 grant will help

Through a range of friendship-based services, we currently help nearly 500 marginalised older people stay independent and connected which is good for them, their loved ones, and the community.

This funding will help us establish our new ‘Link Reach’ project which will enable us to identify and provide support to more than 50 older people in targeted rural areas suffering from chronic loneliness and isolation. We will build connections with local parish councils, village halls, community groups, faith groups, small businesses and organisations in order to recruit 50 plus volunteers and to raise awareness of the importance of strong connections.

We’ve identified 6 rural parishes for our Link Reach project. Here we will welcome those who feel forgotten, who are desperate for more company and struggling with low confidence. This funding will help us reach those seldom heard, where increased connections and friendship will help improve value, increase self-esteem and to ensure those we support feel an important part of our community again.
