New look schemes team

Chris Withers will head up Ecclesiastical Insurance’s growing schemes business following Tony Fletcher’s retirement.

Tony joined Ecclesiastical in 1988 from Norwich Union (now Aviva) and retires having led Ecclesiastical’s push in the schemes space since 2016. In his time with the business, he worked across a number of different roles across the company’s underwriting and business development areas.

Chris takes over the position of Schemes and Partnerships Director from Tony, having held the role of broker distribution director with Ecclesiastical since 2016. He previously worked as Schemes Manager and Head of Distribution at Covea and before that at RSA in a variety of business development and leadership roles.

As part of the changes within the business, distribution performance manager Geoff Turner will step up to fill Chris’ position. Geoff joined Ecclesiastical in 2018, having previously held a similar role at LV= and has 13 years of experience in insurance.

Earlier this year, Ecclesiastical announced ambitions to double the size of its business as part of its mission to give more to good causes.

As part of these growth plans, the specialist insurer has prioritised growth within schemes. The insurer has grown its schemes book by 50% since 2020, with further growth anticipated in 2023, including bringing on board new schemes and supporting existing broker partners to grow.

The business is also expanding into new methods of distribution, ways of working, and specialisms – including the leisure market for the first time.

“I’d like to thank Tony and wish him all the best in his retirement. Under his guidance, we’ve grown our schemes book and built new relationships with brokers and MGAs, as well as building on existing partnerships.

“He will be missed by peers, colleagues, and his team as well as the brokers he has worked so closely with in his time with us.”

Adrian continued: “I’m delighted Chris has taken on the role. His expertise, passion, and knowledge of the business will help us to deliver on our ambitious plans to grow our schemes business. Similarly, Geoff has helped us to develop positive relationships with broker partners and will build on that further still in his new role.”
