Brokers ... Meet Dave Carey

Meet Dave Carey, Managing Director Intermediary

Find out more about his role and expectations for BIBA 2026

1. What does your role involve, and how does it support brokers day to day?

I lead our broker business within Ecclesiastical UK, working with our teams across the country to shape our strategy and turn it into practical, day-to-day support for our broker partners.

We work side by side with brokers to bring our specialist niches to life, making it easy to tap into our insight, expertise and the full breadth of our propositions.

With expertise across Heritage, Education, Faith, Charity, Care, Leisure, High Net Worth and Real Estate, we bring deep sector knowledge and practical insight, helping brokers find the right solution for each client’s needs.

Alongside this, our dedicated Schemes business partners with brokers to win, retain and grow scheme portfolios, providing responsive servicing, delegated authority, and tailored solutions that meet scheme client needs.

2. What do you enjoy most about working with brokers or within the specialist insurance space?

I most enjoy how we blend our specialist niche insight with brokers’ deep client knowledge, sharing perspectives, shaping the risk together and tailoring the right solution. It’s a genuine partnership that helps brokers have better conversations and deliver great outcomes for their clients.

3. For brokers attending BIBA 2026, what’s one conversation or issue you’re most looking forward to discussing?

BIBA is a brilliant chance to spend time with our broker partners and really listen to what’s changing in their world, where they’re seeing opportunities, and what’s getting in the way. I’m especially looking forward to hearing how our propositions and day-to-day support are landing in the market, and what more we can do to make it even easier to trade with us and strengthen our partnership.

4. Are there any recent projects, initiatives, or improvements to broker support that you’re particularly proud of?

We’ve expanded our appetite in Care and Leisure, giving brokers broader options and even more confidence placing these risks with us. Importantly, this builds on our long-established specialist strength across Heritage, Education, Faith, Charity and our other niches, where dedicated teams continue to bring deep expertise and responsive, relationship-led support across the UK.

5. Outside of work, how do you like to unwind? Any hobbies or interests you’re happy to share?

Outside of work, I’m a big sports fan and I enjoy a round of golf when time allows. I also follow Manchester United. Most of all, I like spending time with my family, especially my two grandchildren. When I get the chance, I also enjoy travelling, good food and a nice glass of wine.

6. Is there a charity or cause you’re passionate about, and what inspired you to support it?

I’m an active supporter of Insurance United Against Dementia (IUAD), inspired by my Mum’s diagnosis in 2017. Sadly, we lost Mum in 2024, but I continue to work closely with IUAD to raise awareness and funds in the fight to find a cure. It’s been encouraging to see the progress being made through the work of Alzheimer’s Society, and I’m passionate about doing what I can to help families like mine navigate the challenges of dementia.
